    [!] DISCLAIMER [!]

    This post will no longer be updated as of 5/9/18 per my departure from the community. I am unable to reliably update the information regarding the community, community rules, or regular meta builds. Due to this, I have struck through information I have deemed out of date, or soon-to-be out of date, and I have ruled out my entire personal suggestions on factions to join. If you have any issues with NV-MP technically, join the NV-MP Discord and message someone in #helpme. All information that can be seen as subjective should be completely ignored.
    Thank you.

    What is NV-MP?
    NV-MP is an attempt to bring an interactive, multiplayer PvP experience to the original game, Fallout: New Vegas, and build off of that framework in order to create an ever-evolving environment for it's players. It is with this in mind that the development team remains steadfast in it's dedication to develop and complete the mod, and eventually induct new developers onto the team.

    NV-MP is freely available to all owners of Fallout: New Vegas under the conditions that they own a legally obtained copy through Steam. Third-party and hard copies of the game cannot be supported due to the lack of verification available as to whether the game was truly purchased.

    In order to start playing NV-MP, create an account on this site and link it to your Steam account. Once that is done, install the NV-MP Client here; https://nv-mp.com/download.php

    Be sure to read all attached documentation before installing!

    Why does this guide exist?
    This guide is the first Superguide that I have chosen to create, as I have noticed that there is no real definitive source of community and staff compiled information readily available to new and old players alike, and it is with this in mind that I am hopeful that I am able to compile everything within as accurately as possible while providing a readable and easy to navigate document.

    If I happened to miss anything, feel free to comment down below and I will make the necessary edits as soon as possible!

    Creating an Account:
    First things first, you will need a forum account. This can be done by clicking "Sign Up" on the top right corner of your web browser.

    [IMG]

    After clicking this button, you will be taken to the sign up screen where you will choose your name, email, password, gender and Date of Birth.

    Be aware that your name is used in-game and on every forum post and message you send!

    Your gender will also affect your in-game character's gender, and you must agree to the sites terms and rules which can be found here; https://nv-mp.com/forum/index.php?help/terms

    After completing setup, you will be asked to verify your email. Once that is done, you will be permitted to log in and post new threads and actively engage with the rest of the community, but you won't be able to join NV-MP until you download the client here; https://nv-mp.com/download.php

    While the client is downloading, you should associate your account with Steam through the site by clicking your account name in the top right corner and clicking "External Accounts" on the dropdown menu, as shown;

    [IMG]

    Once you have an associate Steam account and the NV-MP client is running, make sure to sign into both NV-MP Client and Steam then you should be good to go! Welcome to NV-MP!

    Common Issues with Launching FNV:
    Fallout: New Vegas is, unfortunately, a very temperamental piece of software due to it's nature and degree of completion, and as such should be treated very carefully. The following is a checklist of common issues that can cause game crashes, ensure that you have checked everything on this list before posting for help! If none of these work check advanced issues or ask on our official Discord!

    • Make sure you have all mods and DLC disabled!
      • DLC can cause stability issues and crashes.
    • Make sure you are playing in windowed mode
    • Make sure you can launch singleplayer FNV. If you have not done so, you must launch singleplayer at least one time!
    • Make sure you are running a Steam copy of FNV, no other copies will work!
    • Make sure you make an exception for nvmpclientinjector.dll in your antivirus!
    • Make sure you haven't moved or renamed your FNV install directory!
    If you are still having issues and haven't done so already, completely reinstalling Fallout: New Vegas can solve most issues. If that doesn't work, then contact us here on the forums or on our official Discord server; https://discordapp.com/invite/vvA4yAu

    1. Do not resell or share account access for any reason.
    2. Do not evade a ban by using multiple accounts.
    3. Players are required to alert gamemasters or administrators of known ban evaders. Players who actively know of and do nothing about a ban evader will suffer the same punishment as the evader.
    4. Use the report feature to notify the administration of minor rule violations. DM an administrator on Discord for major, urgent rule violations only!
    5. No witch-hunting or ganging on players using factions. You cannot force faction members to vote for a specific poll, you may not actively disrupt other factions and etc.
    6. Abusing the reporting system will result in a ban.

    Threads, Messaging and Discord:
    1. No NSFW content is permitted.
    2. Do not harass or flame other players.
    3. Don't post or link to copyrighted or leaked material.
    4. Don't spam post or post spam on the forums.
    5. Do not advertise your content, or another individual's content for personal or monetary gain.
      • Addendum: It is alright to share your content, but it should not be done in a way that openly seeks personal profit or gain.
    6. Do not reply to spam posts.
    7. Do not shitpost or derail a topic. Faction drama happens in Factions and Alliances.
    8. Do not abuse the ratings system.
      • This includes farming likes, mass downvoting people for personal reasons, etc.
      • Abusers of this will be banned for no less than a day.
    9. Asking to be banned will be met with a perma-ban with no chance of repeal.
    10. Don't post for the sake of posting; only post if you are willing to have a dialogue or discussion about a topic.
    11. Don't post in 'dead' threads unless you are attempting to revive a topic.
      • A 'dead' thread is defined as a thread that has not seen activity for a long period of time.
    12. Users found to be abusing or avoiding the word filter will be instantly banned for as long as the administrator desires.

    Factions:
    1. Don't create factions that impersonate or are malicious towards another, already existing faction or player.
    2. Don't create "meme" factions. Keep factions related to and feasible in the Fallout Universe.
      • "Meme" factions are defined as small factions that have no real lore or effort base put in that farm members and exist purely to capture territory.
    3. Outcast factions are not permitted except in certain circumstances where a feasible argument can be made to warrant it's existence.
    4. Factions defining themselves as a division of another, already existing faction must be approved by that main faction.
    5. All factions require a recruitment thread that is to be placed here. Factions are not designed to be used as a 'cool tag' for your username and as a way to capture bases alone, nor are they to be used for a small group of friends.

    1. No racism, hate speech, harassing/attacking other players in-game.
    2. Do not trap players inside safezones.
    3. Do not exploit the /goodsprings command to escape combat, this is bannable.
    4. Do not quit the game or force a crash to escape combat, this is bannable.
    5. Do not open menus, the pip-boy, or etc. during combat. Always have your loadout favorited just in case.
      • To favorite an item, scroll over it in your inventory and press the number keys (1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9). Key #2 is reserved to quick ammo type changes.
    6. Do not target players with malicious intent, namely keeping them from playing or enjoying the mod.
    7. Do not camp player spawns to kill new players.
    8. Do not duplicate any items for any reason.
    9. Do not pickpocket players.

    Typical 'Community' Guidelines:
    Note: These are not explicitly 'rules' but are guidelines that they community has adopted over time and generally sticks to. You won't be liked for violating these, but you aren't required to follow them by any means!

    1. Killing in the Sunset Sarsparilla HQ and the Strip are frowned upon.
    2. Avoid killing players who aren't in factions and want to play the game with friends.
    3. Using the fat man is heavily frowned upon by most players.
    4. "Stim-spamming", "Explosive-spamming" and "XP-farming" are all frowned upon, but everyone does it.
    5. Killing new players is frowned upon.
    6. Being hostile towards new players is frowned upon.

    Frequently Asked Questions:
    (As compiled from; https://nv-mp.com/forum/index.php?threads/the-super-f-a-q.419/)
    What is the ultimate goal of NVMP?
    The first and foremost objective of this project is to bring a single-player New Vegas experience to an interactive, PvP online multiplayer environment. Challenges are sure to rise along the way, but the development team are steadfast in their dedication to this project and are comitted to not only seeing it completed, but it's further development and expansion in the future.
    How and when can I play?
    You are able to start playing right now! Refer to the Advanced setup section for details on how to get started, we no longer use the 'key' system.
    Who exactly is developing NVMP and how long has it been in development?
    A dedicated team of developers have been hard at work for the past two years working on NVMP and we are always looking for new developers. The official staff roster is available here.

    Will we ever have to pay, in one way or another?
    NVMP will remain free-of-charge for the full final product, forever. There will be no pay-wall schemes or pay-for-play subscriptions. Optional donations may be opened up in the future to help cover the cost of additional servers if demand requires them, but there will be no donator favoritism or advantages.
    Why can't I just host my own server and go from there?
    Third party hosting should be an option in the future, but it's just not a focus right now. The dev team want to build a reliable foundation from which future third-party hosters can emulate and expand upon to truly make this project a success like other multiplayer modifications of similar open-world games, such as San Andreas Multiplayer.

    It's going to take time to polish and if they released it now in it's partially completed state, it would be utter chaos and ultimately a big let down and anti-climax for those who have been waiting out for release. Players could abandon the idea of NVMP altogether and move onto something else, dismissing the entire venture as a failure.
    How will the game world actually work?
    The entire world is divided into cells. Players who enter a player-less cell become its temporary host and the environment within it, including NPCs, depend on that player's progress and previous actions. If other players enter the cell while the hosting player is still within it, they will experience the hosting players instance. This mechanic means that if you were to enter a cell where a quest NPC should be, but someone currently in the cell has killed them, then you will fail any associated quest on entry.
    Has the level cap been increased?
    Yes, the current level cap is 95. (This is down from the original level 300 due to frequent crashes after 97.
    What will be the penalty for death?
    Players lose all items after death and their body can be looted for a short time after their death. A player's stat values will not save after death, however, and it will require a full character reset to get those back. It is unknown if this is intentional or not.
    When I kill an NPC, are they dead for everyone? Will there be any essential NPCs?
    No, players will only be able to kill NPCs within an instance of a cell. NPCs wont be omnipresent which means a single iteration of them won't exist and they won't appear dead for all players if someone happens to kill them. As the aim of the project is to bring a vanilla experience online it's unlikely we will see any kind of essential NPCs in NVMP as all non-child NPCs in the vanilla game are able to be killed.
    Are Companions part of the game?
    Some companions, like Arcade, are essential to obtaining particular inventory items so, right now, it is assumed by many people that companions will be present in NVMP. It is likely they will not be able to be recruited outside of their associated quests due to multiple instances of them co-existing and multiple players abusing them, but we just don't know yet.
    Will fast travel be enabled?
    Fast travel is enabled for discovered locations, however locations that you discover are not saved after each relog.
    When will the timeline be set?
    The timeline is set in the same timeline as the vanilla game. There is no set canon for NV-MP, nor is there one in place that coordinates with the events of Fallout: New Vegas.
    How will time work? What about waiting and sleeping?
    World time is synced across all clients through the servers, meaning all players will experience the same time, as set in the timezone of the server's location. It is possible to wait and sleep, however time will immediately snap back to the set time. The day and year, however, are not synced and it is possible to advance forward.
    Will Hardcore mode be enabled?
    Hardcore mode is not currently enabled server-side, but can be enabled via the client. There have been talks to enable hardcore mode, but no developer confirmation on this subject has been ascertained at the time of writing this answer.
    Is there any kind of medic system in place? Will I be able to heal friends?
    There is no third-party healing or plans for third-party healing at the moment.
    Is there any kind of trade interface?
    There is no dedicated trade interface, however it is possible to drop items that are synced with the server in order to trade.
    How does saving and inventory work?
    All character progress and inventory is saved to the server and local saving is not utilized whatsoever. All data is saved to a web database synced to your forum account. The Pip-Boy is fully operational and players who access it, and any other menu, are invulnerable. It is a rule violation to access the Pip-Boy or any other menu in such a way as to hinder or avoid PvP Combat.
    Will we get any kind of online players list? What about on the Pip-Boy map?
    A player list is easily accessible by using the command, "/players". This will output a server message listing the active players to your client. The map is handled locally, therefore player locations are not tracked on-map.

    Complete Starter Guide:
    A player's first spawn is what occurs when they log into NVMP for the first time after a wipe or in general. The player will be met by the chat box on the left side of their screen.

    [IMG]
    (Chatbox in this image manually highlighted in red.)

    The chatbox will tell you which players have logged in, which players have logged out, what bases are currently being capture and by who, inter-server communications, roleplay actions, deaths, and much more.

    The chatbox also has a few commands that you have access to and will use regularly, these will be listed below for your convenience.

    • // [TEXT] - This will globally send a message.
    • [TEXT] - This will locally send a message.
    • /goodsprings - This will teleport you to Goodsprings.
    • /respawn - This will kill your character.
    • /reset - This will reset all of your character data, including playtime and stats.
    • /players - This will list all players currently in-game.
    • /tpevent - This will TP you to the nearest event if their is one in progress.

    Other controls;

    • Scroll Chatbox - PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN
    • Open server diagnostics - M
    • Chat - ENTER

    If you wish to customize your chatbox, you can edit the file in
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\nvmp-game.txt

    Commands will be listed below;

    Code:
    Chat::Enabled = 1
    -- Boolean, enables/disables chat function

    Chat::ShowPlayerMessages = 1
    -- Boolean, enables/disables messages sent by players

    Chat::ShowWhisperMessages = 1
    -- Boolean, enables/disables whispers sent by players

    Chat::ShowSystemMessages = 1
    -- Boolean, enables/disables messages sent by the server

    Chat::Anchor = bl
    -- Do not modify.

    Chat::PositionX = 40
    -- IntValue, determines the position of the chatwindow on the X coordinate plane.

    Chat::PositionY = 140
    -- IntValue, determines the position of the chatwindow on the Y coordinate plane.

    Chat::Width = 300
    -- IntValue, determines the size of the chatwindow on the X coordinate plane.

    Chat::Height = 350
    -- IntValue, determines the size of the chatwindow on the Y coordinate plane.

    -- Other commands are available for avid coders, however these are the only commands we mere peasants should be concerned with.

    If you do not want to edit the gamefiles yourself, you can simply download my personal modifications to the chatwindow and render distances included in this thread.

    The first thing a new player will likely do is head towards Primm and fight the raiders there. This, in a normal game, would be well advised however, in multiplayer, is almost a waste of time. The most ideal route for a new player is to North from Goodsprings and head straight for the RepConn HQ to get the Q-35 Plasma Modulator. It is the best and easiest weapon to get against NPCs and players in some situations.

    After getting the Q-35, you should be able to head to the Sunset Sarsparilla Headquarters and defeat the Fiends fairly easily. Once inside, you should be able to access the holotape room in the very back, and complete the quest for 1,500 XP. You can also collect all the caps within the room. You can then log out and log back in in order to exploit the reload of the caps and holotape, and you can do this indefinitely to quickly reach a desired level. This is called 'XP or Holotape farming' and 'Cap farming' respectively. Average player level is 30-ish, however some players are in the 60 range. Max level is 95.

    Each time you level up, you should put points into the following skills, in order;

    Energy Weapons (Buffs Q-35)
    Medicine (Buffs stimpacks so you don't need to carry as much)
    Explosives (for later use)
    Melee Weapons
    Survival
    Barter
    Speech

    Under no circumstances should you put points into the Guns skill! It does not save properly!

    When you are able to, always pick the perk Intense Training. Using it, select max out the following stats;

    Intelligence (Upgrades skill point and XP gain)
    Strength
    Perception
    Agility
    Charisma
    Luck
    (Do not rank Luck up to 10!)

    Do not raise Luck to 10, this will reset your character's stats for some unknown reason.
    Do not put points into Endurance, it does not save.

    Once you have enough caps and levels, head to Freeside and go to Mick and Ralph's.
    Approach Mick and ask him to see his special inventory (you should have a charisma of at least 30 by now) and purchase a 40mm Grenade Machine Gun and Rocket Launcher. These are two of the best non-unique starter weapons for players. Purchase as much ammo as you can, and relog to reset Mick's inventory. These items are best used in PvP only.

    Next, go to the Gun Runners vendortron and purchase a set of Combat Armor Mk. III. Head back to Mick and Ralph's and have Mick repair all of your items to the highest condition possible. If you have a high repair skill, buy the materials from Mick or Ralph and repair them yourself.

    Next, go to Jacobstown and purchase stimpacks from Calamity. She sells approximately 20-35 each time, and this is the most reliable way to farm stimpacks.

    At this point, you are ready to deal with any aggressive players and should be free to roam the wastes.

    Notes:
    • The Brotherhood of Steel hunts players who wear BoS T-45d or BoS T-51 Power Armor. They are occasionally picky about the Q-35 Plasma Modulator, as well.
    • The Enclave does not allow players to wear the Remnant's Power Armor. (This armor is not in-game yet.)
    • The NCR will ask you to remove any NCR armor you are wearing if you are not in the NCR. You will be attacked and killed if you fail to comply.
    • The Desert Rangers will ask you to take off Ranger Combat Armor if they see you wearing it.
    • The Legion will attack and kill anyone wearing NCR or Legion armor unless they are in the Legion.
    • Only three sets of Enclave armor exist. Anyone caught wearing additional sets will be banned.

    Factions to Join:
    [NOTICE]: The following information is out of date as I no longer actively participate within the NV-MP Community. If you wish for more up-to-date suggestions, join the Discord and ask an older member for their preference.

    I, personally, recommend the following factions due to their friendly nature and willingness to help and welcome new players to the mod and the community. This list is entirely subjective to my personal experiences with these factions;

    • New California Republic
    • Brotherhood of Steel
    • The Enclave
    • Caesar's Legion

    Joining a Faction:
    In order to join a faction, you must navigate to the faction's group page on NV-MP and select the faction you would like to join. In this example, we will be using the White Glove Society.

    • Click on the Group
    • Check the group's Information Page (First page)
    [IMG]
    • Check for a forum application (Factions and Alliances)
    • Click "Join Group" and write a short reason for joining
    [IMG]
    • Once accepted, go to Groups > Groups I've Joined
    • Click on the three dots next to the group's icon and click Claim Ribbon
    [IMG]

    After that, you will have your faction color set for your name and be able to access all faction features.
    Remember that most factions have a recruitment thread on the Factions and Alliances subforum and may require a separate application in order to join!

    [IMG]

    This thread will no longer be updated as of 6/9/2018. I am sorry for failing to mitigate the growth of hostility in this community.

    As always,

    I'd mention that some groups require you to fill out an application in order to join. The Enclave is the first example that comes to mind.

    Doesn't mean we can't have it it one place so that when you people do break the rules you have nobody to blame but yourselves.

    Thanks for the compliment! It is a shame that most new players don't check the forums but I've been pointing most of them here to try and get a few forum dwellers and get the guide more popular.

    Pointing them here will definitely help and, probably, stop people from wasting their time typing out common things over and over again, haha.

    Added the duping rules and added stim farming techniques to the Meta Guide.

    I want to add a .zip copy of the entire NV-MP game files so people can manually install, however I am unable to do so.

    This is very informative and I think this will really help people who are new. Btw, I love the structure you used with the 'spoiler' boxes; it helps to find the relevant information fast and reduces clutter. All in all, well done :)

    Thank you! It is surprisingly hard to get spoiler boxes to work properly on NV-MP, for some reason. They like to automatically make sub-boxes of themselves, and it starts to become a mess.

    Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I was once trying to use one and it just kept messing up so I gave up and left it. A lot of finesse is required to use one which is something I don't have a lot of lol. You did a really good job with them anyway and they look really professional, maybe i'll give it another go at some point aha :)

    I rate 0/10. Was told there was a guide on how to recolor chat, was no guide. I have been bamboozled and I demand reparations.

    I'll look into it. Oren and a few other people figured it out in the past, I must have forgotten to add it to the guide, sorry!
