Yes, I think more crafting options should be added to encourage that kind of playstyle - some weapons like the Shishkebab should be craftable, as well.
But with these type of changes we would really need some kind of item exchange mechanic, maybe a faction based shared inventory or just some other method where you could actually transfer a item into a different inventory without duplicating it. This way if a group has one guy with high Science, he can craft the drugs and other people can collect him ingredients, and so on.
The Enclave originally had this idea where we would have a member with a high repair skill that would repair damaged weapons we brought to them. Unfortunately, it didn't really work in the end because of the issues with player skills and trading.

There definitely needs to be an economy system that has to be thought out carefully first. Almost every single item is practically worthless, because they're easily obtainable.
